Welcome to our Pond!

Welcome to 311!

Welcome to 311!  I can't wait to get started with a new school year.  Here are a few things that may be helpful to know.

Supplies:  At the end of last year, everyone received a list of supplies necessary for third grade.   I hope all students have their supplies by now. **I am also asking that each child brings in a white pillowcase for a project.  Please have them in by the end of October.**

Your child will be receiving an assignment book.  This book will come home every night so you know what your child's homework is and also any other important news from school.   Please sign the book each night.

Arrival/Dismissal: Your child should be dropped off between 7:45 and 8:00 a.m. unless they are eating breakfast.  If your child is eating breakfast at school, he/she may arrive between 7:15 and 7:35 and go directly to the cafeteria.  School begins promptly with prayer and announcements at 8:00 a.m.  If your child comes in after announcements have begun, they will be marked tardy.  It makes for a much smoother start to the day if your child is on time!   At 2:45 p.m., 311 will be dismissed at the doors to the breezeway.

*Birthday snacks are welcome in our classroom.  If your child has a summer birthday, please notify me if you would like to celebrate it on another day (end of year or birthday).  (There are 13 students in room 311.)

Absence:
If your child will be absent or tardy, call the school office between 7:00 and 8:30 a.m. to report it.   A written excuse should then be sent with your child when they return to school.  It must state the reason for and dates of absence, as well as being signed by a parent/guardian.   Please be sure to read your school handbook for more details on absences/tardies.

Specials:

  • Monday:
  • Tuesday: Mass for Grades 1-4

  •                Library
  • Wednesday: Music
  • Thursday: Computer
  • Friday: Physical Education

Homework:  Homework is normally assigned four nights a week, Monday-Thursday.   All homework is expected to be completed on time.  If your child has a missed assignment, he/she will lose five minutes of recess time. The missed homework will need to be turned in the next day.  If it is not turned in, they will then lose ten minutes of recess.  Homework in third grade will average about thirty minutes a night, however, students who do not complete class work when sufficient time is given in school, will be expected to complete this work at home in addition to their regular homework assignments.   If your child forgets his/her homework, he/she will be given a "missed assignment" stamp in his/her assignment book.  These stamps are to serve as a notice to you.   If too many missed assignments accumulate, this will be reflected in your child's grade on their report card.

Grades: The letter grades that reflect student performance will be O, S+, S, N, and N-.  To remain consistent, these letters will appear on both classroom work and report cards.

Discipline Plan: If your child fails to follow the school rules, he/she will be asked to fill out an index card.  They will write what they did wrong on the card.  After three infractions, I will send a copy of the index cards home for you to sign.  Repeated problems will result in missed recess, being sent to the office, or detention.

Book Orders: I will be sending home book orders about once a month.  As you may see from my large classroom library, I love to read and will try to encourage your children to read as much as possible!  I encourage you to try to purchase a book or two for your child whenever your budget allows it.  The children really look forward to the day when book orders come in!  If you would like to purchase books, you can make a check payable to Scholastic Book Club (this check will cover all book clubs!)  Please do not send cash!!

Dress Code: Students are expected to be in correct uniform attire each day.
