Please continue to check
your child's head for head lice. If nits or live lice
are present, please treat with medicated shampoo per
directions and keep home from school until nits are removed.
Please call the school with questions. Also, a
reminder to 6th grade students' parents - if your child has
received the Tdap booster, please provide documentation with
date received and physician signature or office stamp.
Immunization must be given and documentation provided before
starting 7th grade.
Tdap Booster: A
reminder regarding 6th grade Tdap booster immunization - if
your child will be entering 7th grade for the 2014-15 school
year, a Tdap booster dose must be administered before
entering 7th grade. Proof of your child receiving this
booster dose must be signed by a physician and returned to
St. Lawrence before they return to school in the fall.
If you have any questions, please call me at the school.
NOTICE: Ohio Department
of Health state regulations require all students entering
7th grade to show proof of a Tdap booster immunization.
This immunization protects your student from diphtheria,
tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough). Pertussis immunity
decreases over time, so your teen needs a booster “shot” to
protect both him/her, but also infants, seniors, and those
with other health issues. St. Lawrence School does not plan
to offer free Tdap immunizations at school this spring.
Please call your health care provider or Price Hill Clinic
(357-2700) to arrange for your student’s Tdap immunization
before August 2013. Thank you.
Tdap Booster: It is
hard to believe we are approaching the end of the school
year! We are also working hard planning for the 2014-2015
school year. If you have a student currently in the 6th
grade, please review the letter sent home with your child
regarding the booster dose of Tdap. This immunization must
be administered before entering 7th grade. Please return
the bottom portion of the letter including the date the
vaccine was administered and a physician’s signature.
Screenings: It is
hard to believe how fast this school year is moving! We
have recently completed postural screenings and the Dental
Sealant Program. Please look for referral letters in your
child’s folder if there were any concerns. Also, there has
been head lice noted here at St. Lawrence. Affected grade
levels have been checked. Please check your child’s head
periodically and if head lice is present, treat your child
at home and do not send to school. We will continue to
check students here. I hope everyone continues to stay
Postural Screenings: We
will be performing postural screenings at St. Lawrence
School during the month of February. Those grades
participating in the screening will be 5th, 6th and 7th
grades. For those students a letter regarding the postural
screening program was sent home with your child. These
screenings will be performed during gym classes. Also, the
Dental Sealant Program will be offered again at St. Lawrence
School. This FREE program will take place during school
hours the week of February 24-28. All students in grades 2-8
should have brought home information on this. If you have
any questions, please call the school. I hope everyone
continues to stay warm!
More Notes About Dental Sealants:
I hope everyone had a happy, safe and healthy holiday break!
Hard to believe the school year is half way through! As many
of you know, the deadline for paperwork to allow your child
to participate in the Dental Sealant Program has passed. The
program was open to 2nd, 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Please
contact the school now if you wish to have your child
participate in the FREE program. If you have a child in
grades K, 1st, 3rd, 4th and/or 5th and have interest in the
Dental Sealant Program, please call me at school on Mondays
or Thursdays. Finally, a reminder to parents/families,
continue to check your child for head lice. If you need
information or help with this, please call the school.
A reminder regarding the Dental
Sealant Program—Consent forms were sent home with
children in grades 2, 6, 7 and 8 in October. We have
received some of those back, however, all forms need to be
returned ASAP. If you are interested in your child
partaking in this program, please return signed paperwork
before the holiday break (by December 20, 2013). If you
wish to decline your child from participating, please
return the form with the appropriate box marked declining
sealants with your signature. I have extra forms at St.
Lawrence School if needed. This is a FREE Dental Screening
and Sealant Program! This is an excellent opportunity to
help prevent cavities! Please call me at school Mondays or
Thursdays with any questions (921-4996).
DENTAL SEALANTS - I am
sending information and consent forms home with your child
today if they are in grades 2nd, 6th, 7th and 8th. A
free dental program will be visiting St. Lawrence at the end
of February 2014. With your consent, a dentist will
examine your child’s teeth, determine which teeth need to be
treated, and apply a sealant which may help prevent tooth
decay. Please return to school ASAP.
Furthermore, with the hard work and dedication of Ms. D-C
(your previous school nurse), a grant was awarded to St.
Lawrence this school year for the “Healthy Teeth For a
Lifetime” program! The Greater Cincinnati Foundation
is helping to fund this project in thanks to Nurse D-C!
The program will provide kindergarten students instruction
in Dental Hygiene and Cavity Prevention; receive new
toothbrushes; and students will be provided milk and other
dairy products as snacks to help improve dental health.
What a great program! I hope you all have a fun, safe
VISION & HEARING SCREENINGS -
I have enjoyed getting to know the students at St.
Lawrence and look forward to meeting more of you! As some
of you know, we have begun vision and hearing screenings.
I will send home letters to parents as I get close to your
child’s grade level. As a reminder, please consider
having your child receive a flu vaccine from their
pediatrician or the local health department. We are
approaching cold and flu season. I hope everyone is
enjoying the beautiful weather and staying active!
IMMUNIZATION RECORDS FOR
KINDERGARTEN, NEW STUDENTS & 7th GRADE STUDENTS
– Please send in your child’s immunization record if he/she
is in kindergarten, 7th grade or is a new student at St.
Lawrence. If you have already done so, thank you! Each child
new to St. Lawrence or who is in kindergarten or 7thgrade
must have an updated record on file. Otherwise, your child
may be excluded from school. Also, we have had a few cases
of head lice at school. I would like to remind those parents
how important it is to re-treat your children, as directed
by the treatment product directions. If you have any
questions, please call the school office.
IMMUNIZATION & SCREENINGS -
I hope everyone is having a great start to the school year!
A few reminders, letters will be coming home regarding
missing immunization records for students in kindergarten,
7th grade and new students. Please provide the school
documentation of these missing immunizations ASAP so your
child is not excluded from school. Also, I will begin
vision and hearing screenings on all kindergarten students
and those who are new students in the first grade in the
upcoming week. If you have any questions or concerns,
please contact me at the school 921-4996. Finally,
thank you to all of the great families at St. Lawrence who
have turned in Medical Authorization forms! We have
